John Howard-Smith CEO
John gained a Masters in Management Science from Imperial College before joining Buckmaster and Moore in 1983. A fellow of the Securities Institute, his career has focussed on managing International funds for Private Clients, Charities and Pension Funds. He was a Divisional Director at Credit Suisse Asset Management before joining James Capel as a Senior Director and member of the Management Team. John left HSBC in 2001 to head up PSigma Investment Management. John is 53 years old.
Matthew Sharp Managing Director
Matthew gained an Honours degree in Economics & Finance followed by a Masters degree in International Financial Markets. He undertook extensive research into the equity risk premium before joining HSBC Investment Management in 2000 as a fund manager. He specialised in portfolio construction, tactical asset allocation and research. He joined PIM in September 2002 to manage a variety of investment mandates, developing and implementing client solutions. Matthew is 35 years old.
Darrell Mercer Managing Director
Darrell achieved an Honours degree in Economics in 1984 and trained with Hoare Govett before joining the Private Client Division. He moved to Flemings before teaming up with John Howard-Smith, Adam Side and Tim Gregory. In 1996 he moved to James Capel and Co(later HSBC) as a Senior Director. He was responsible for management of client portfolios and headed up the Investment team responsible for the Midlands and Northern Division. He joined PSigma Investment Management in July 2002.
Adam Side Managing Director
Adams career began in 1985 at J.M. Finn having obtained an Honours degree in Economics. He has been involved in private client portfolios since 1987 when he moved to Buckmaster & Moore (subsequently taken over by Credit Suisse). In 1995 he moved to James Capel(HSBC Investment Management) and was responsible for client portfolios and headed up the Investment team responsible for the Southern Division. He joined PSigma Investment Management in July 2002.
Thomas Becket Chief Investment Officer
Thomas starting working at PIM 7 years ago after graduating from Trinity College, Dublin with an MA (hons) in Classics. He has developed PSigma's Investment Process and a network of contacts throughout the world. Tom is now CIO, heading up PSigma's asset allocation decisions, unit trust selection and Wealth Management Solutions. Tom recently launched a retail fund, the PSigma Balanced Managed Fund of Funds and is a respected commentator in the Press on markets and economic matters.
Tim Gregory Head of Global Equities
Tim began at AJ Bekhor in 1985 and worked in the Private Client area of both Quilters and Buckmaster & Moore before pursuing a career in the Unit Trust industry. Working with Bill Mott at Credit Suisse, their funds won a number of awards. Tim moved to Prolific(1994)to manage the Extra Income Fund then joined Gartmore in 1997 to be head of UK Retail funds and run their Income Unit Trusts. Tim has won various awards and in 1995 and 1999 was nominated "Income Fund Manager of the Year"
James Knowles Head of Fixed Interest
James began in 1983 in the private client department of Buckmaster & Moore(later taken over by Credit Suisse)where he managed investment portfolios for Individuals, Trusts, Charities and Pension Funds. In 1996 he was part of a team who moved to James Capel, where he became an Investment Director. He joined PSigma Investment Management in November 2002 to continue managing portfolios and to work closely with Tim Gregory (CIO). James is 48 years old and a member of the Securities Institute.
Daniel Adams Investment Analyst
Daniel graduated in 2005 with an Honours degree in Geography from Reading university. After joining PIM, Daniel initially trained as an Investment Manager, specialising in private client portfolios and asset allocation before moving to the Investment Team in 2008. Daniel now works as an Investment Analyst working alongside Thomas Becket and Tim Gregory on the Unit Trust and Equity Research teams. Daniel also assumes the role of Assistant Fund Manager on the Balanced Managed Fund of Funds. Daniel is a member of SII and is currently working towards the CFA exam. Daniel is 28 years old.
Andrew Cantouris Investment Director
Andrew graduated in 1999 with an Honours degree in Geography from Bristol University. He then joined Smith & Williamson, assisting with Private Client Portfolios, specialising in research at both sector and stock level. He went on to join HSBC as an Investment Manager taking on direct responsibility for the Portfolio Management of private client, trust and pension portfolios. He joined PSigma in October 2005 where he remains focused on the management of private client portfolios. Andrew is 32 years old and is a member of the Securities Institute.
Seton Craven Investment Director
Seton's career in the private client investment industry began in 1983 at Sheppards and Chase where he became actively responsible for client portfolios in 1986. A year later he moved to Hoare Govett who ceased to offer private client services in 1990. At that time Seton moved to Robert Fleming where he worked for ten years. In 2000 he was approached to work for HSBC Investment Management where he became a Senior Director in 2003 and was responsible for overseeing a fund management team of 22 people. Seton joined PSigma in May 2006 and is 49 years old.
Rowland Flower Investment Director
Rowland began his investment career in 1997, after graduating with Honours from Newcastle University. He joined Fleming Private Asset Management (now JP Morgan) where he built up a solid grounding in Equity Research. In 2001 Rowland moved to HSBC Investment Management, where he was made a Director and became ultimately responsible for a team managing over £200 million of private client, trust and pension assets. Rowland is a Fellow of the Securities Institute and joined PIM in November 2005.
Julian Key Investment Director
Julian is a Fellow of the Securities Institute and began his career in the City with Britannia Group of Unit Trusts in 1983, having studied law at Brunel University. He joined the private client stockbroker Quilter Goodison & Co in 1985 to move across to private client fund management and stayed with the company until 2007 as part of a team with Mark Chetwood managing over £250m of private client portfolios, including Trusts, Pension Funds and Charities.
Peter Haynes Investment Director
Having read Business Studies at Oxford Polytechnic, Peter’s career in private client investment management started at Raphael Zorn Hemsley in 1993. In 1994 he moved to Quilter & Co where he became responsible for managing client portfolios in 1997. Since then he has continued to run private client, trust and pension portfolios as a senior fund manager. Peter joined PSigma Investment Management in September 2007. He is 45 years old and a Fellow of the Securities Institute.
Jeremy Matthews Investment Director
Jeremy started his career in the city in 1973, when he joined the private client department of Buckmaster and Moore. He became a partner in 1985 and then a Director of Credit Suisse Asset Management. In 1994 he moved to Quilter Goodison as a Director and Investment Manager in the private client department. He continued in the same role when the firm was acquired by Morgan Stanley. Jeremy joined PSigma in 2005 and brings with him a wealth of experience from over 30 years of managing investment portfolios for private clients and charities.
Jane Coghlan Investment Manager
Jane joined PSigma at the beginning of 2007 after graduating from Oxford Brooks University in 2006 with a degree in Accounting & Finance. When Jane joined PSigma she initially worked closely assisting the Investment Managers and Directors before moving on to manage her own investment portfolios. Jane is a chartered member of the Securities Institute and holds the CISI diploma.
Chris Catchpole Investment Manager
Chris graduated in 1996 from Glasgow University with an honours degree in Geology and Applied Geology. Following three years at Bloomberg, Chris joined Morgan Stanley Quilter (now Citigroup Quilter) as a Trainee Investment Manager. Once qualified, Chris worked as part of a team of four investment managers looking after the assets of Private Clients, Trusts, Charities and Pension Funds - a role he continues at PSigma, having joined in June 2007. Chris is 37 years old.
Geoff Cooper Investment Manager
Geoff began his career in the City in August 1996 with Fleming Private Asset Management (FPAM) as a Portfolio Assistant. Flemings was subsequently taken over by Chase Manhattan in August 2000 and following a merger with JP Morgan, FPIM became part of JP Morgan Private Bank, where Geoff was a Client Service Specialist responsible for the Family Office. In 2005 Geoff had a brief spell with Brown Brothers Harriman as a Client Account Manager, before joining Fortis Private Investment Management in 2006 as an Investment Assistant. Geoff joined PSigma Investment Management as an Investment Manager in September 2009. Geoff is a Member of the Securities Institute.
