The Judging Panel, which was formed in October 2000, delivers qualitative evaluation of the leading managers in the High Net Worth Class. The Panel is made up of the leading exponents of private client investment manager selection and performance monitoring.

James Anderson (Panel Chairman)
James is Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Tru-Est, which he founded in 1993. As well as owning its own stable of financial publications and products, Tru-Est acts as publisher for a range of leading professional bodies, including the Alternative Investment Management Association and the Actuarial Profession. Tru-Est is a member of the Directory and Database Publishers Association. James has been publishing for the financial services market for over 18 years, the past 14 of which have been spent focusing specifically on the private client sector, both in the UK and around the world. James launched PAM in 1999 as a guide to asset managers providing portfolio management services to private clients.
Roderick Balfour
Roderick has been a Director of Rothschild Trust for over 11 years responsible for international business development and overseeing investment matters where Rothschild Trust has had a long-established open-architecture approach. In that time he has dealt with families all over the world, working with their professional advisers to implement structures for succession and other objectives. This has led to wide experience of the practical issues facing different types of client and the very varied range of international assets involved - private operating companies, multi-manager investments, art, real estate etc.. In this work he has also had experience of a very wide range of portfolio managers in Europe and the USA. Prior to Rothschilds, Roderick's principal experience was gained in the investment field including private client advisory, institutional fixed-income and as principal. Roderick Balfour speaks fluent French and Spanish and was educated at Eton College and London Business School.
Euan Dangerfield
Euan is Director of Investment Services for the Private Wealth division of Mourant. He has over 10 year's investment experience, managing portfolios for private clients in both Onshore and Offshore jurisdictions. Before returning to Jersey to join Mourant he was head of a team of private client portfolio managers at Royal Bank of Canada in London, and prior to that he has worked for HSBC and Hill Samuel. Euan deals with a wide variety of Investment Management firms. His role is to select investment managers based on a quantitative and qualitative approach and to monitor performance both in absolute terms and on a risk adjusted basis. The fundamental aim is to ensure that all Mourant investment portfolios remain appropriate and focused on the underlying clients' investment objectives in terms of asset allocation and content. Euan holds the Securities Institute Diploma and is a Fellow of the Institute.
Stuart Davies
Stuart is a Senior Manager in Deloitte & Touche Wealth Management Limited in London. He has almost 20 years' experience of providing financial planning and investment advice for wealthy individuals and families. Stuart specialises in long term strategic financial planning, investment and performance consulting, and international financial planning. His work includes detailed risk analysis for client portfolios, objective setting, portfolio benchmarking, manager search and assessment and ongoing performance monitoring. He advises a large number of wealthy individuals, trusts and other organisations in the UK and overseas.
James Day
James is Managing Director and founder of Peritus Investment Consultancy located in Zurich. Peritus guides wealthy private clients and trusts through the complex task of risk profiling, strategic asset allocation, manager selection and ongoing performance evaluation. The company places great emphasis on strong ethical values. Peritus is not tied to any Investment Manager and refunds all institutional rebates negotiated on the client's behalf. The company's mission is "to enhance the investment experience clients have in the management of their wealth". James has over 17 years of industry experience having worked as an investment manager at Morgan Stanley Quilter and ABN AMRO prior to joining Ernst and Young Trust Company as Director of Investment Services where he established a team dedicated to performance evaluation and manager selection for the Trust Companies clients.
Graham Harrison
Graham is co-founder and managing director of Asset Risk Consultants Limited (ARC), an independent investment consulting practice. ARC provides advice to wealthy individuals, trust companies and private banks on portfolio construction and design, risk profiling and performance measurement. The philosophy of ARC can be summarised as "translating information into knowledge" and represents a response to the most common complaint heard from potential clients: too much hay; too few needles. ARC helps clients sort out the padding and get to the point! Graham is a regular commentator on investment manager performance trends and is a Fellow of the Securities Institute..
Michael Maslinski
Michael is a director of Maslinski & Co, London based management consultants specialising in banking and wealth management. He has advised numerous financial institutions on the development of their strategies for the affluent sector, ranging from retail banks and insurance companies to stockbrokers, investment banks and family offices. Prior to starting his own consulting business in 1996, Michael was Head of Marketing and Business Development for Coutts & Co, where he was a member of the executive committee. He has over 20 years practical experience of banking and is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars, as well as being the author of numerous articles and surveys. He is an MBA (City University) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Susan McCabe
Susan gained a BA(Hons) from The Queen's University of Belfast and started her career working as a stockbroker at Phillips & Drew, where she became a Registered Representative of the London Stock Exchange. She subsequently joined ANZ Grindlays Bank as an Investment Manager managing private client portfolios in a number of currencies. In 1997 Susan joined Mourants (one of the largest law firms and trust companies in the Channel Islands) where she established the Investment Services department and was appointed Director, Investment Services. In 2004 she established Investment Risk Management Limited and acquired the business of Ernst & Young Investment Consulting. Susan is a Member of the Securities Institute, President-elect of the Securities Institute in Jersey - and will become the first woman President in July 2004.
David Nolan
David has twenty-five years experience in Investment Management,
providing advice to Trust Companies and higher net worth clients both within
the UK and offshore environment. David joined the Walbrook Group in
September 2000 as Director of Investment Strategy, having previously been
responsible for the investment team within Coutts (Jersey) Limited from May
1995 and having started his career with NatWest Investments in the UK in
1979. David is appropriately qualified in terms of both qualifications and
experience as required under the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998 and is
a principle person as defined by the JFSC codes of conduct. He holds the
Investment Advice Certificate (IAC) and is a Member of the Securities
Institute. In 2001 David was appointed to the four-person Investment board
for Kedge Capital funds who are responsible for $1.6bn assets under
management.
Within Walbrook Asset Management Limited (WAM) David is responsible for the
selection and review of third party Discretionary Investment managers,
together with overall responsibility for the selection of all external
service providers as Chairman of the Investment Strategy Committee. In this
regard WAM provide independent and professional advice to the Walbrook group
and are responsible for the monitoring of £1bn of trust and company assets.
Ian Orton
Ian, an economist by training, is editor of TheWealthNET and Wealth Management - and is a highly regarded authority on the international investment industry. Formerly editor of Funds International and Private Banker International Ian has extensive experience and knowledge in the financial services market. Ian has worked as a consultant with a wide range of banks, national and supra-national organisations. He has edited and written various specialist books covering the financial services market, including Re-engineered Banks, Private Banking at the Crossroads, and Non-Bank Banks - A Potent Threat?
Andrew Pitt
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and has been a partner in KPMG in Bristol for 17 years. He works within KPMG's Entrepreneurial Solutions group and his practice includes dealing with family businesses and private clients who are mainly based in London and the South West. In the course of this work he has had extensive dealings with a large range of Private Asset Managers, in some cases setting up Private Unit Trusts for bigger clients and in others dealing with smaller trust funds with traditional portfolios. His clients are increasingly requiring beauty parades and benchmarked performance. He assists colleagues in KPMG across the UK on investment manager selection issues.
Tim Watts
Tim has been employed in the finance industry for over 26 years, having experience of both onshore and offshore jurisdictions. Today he is an Investment Services Director with The Abacus Financial Services Group Ltd in the Channel Islands. Abacus started life in the late 1960’s, has offices in Jersey, Guernsey, London & Edinburgh and now employs over 350 people in areas of Trust & Company Administration, Corporate Services & Asset Management. Since joining Abacus in 1995 Tim has introduced a range of investment related services to the traditional trust & company environment. These include comprehensive investment manager and client portfolio evaluation, which has lead to Abacus being widely recognised as an innovator in this field. He is a holder of the International Securities Market Association Diploma and a Member of the UK Securities Institute. A keen motorcyclist, his hobbies also now include a range of the more recognised outdoor pursuits.
Neil Wright
Neil is a Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers working with the firm’s Personal Financial Planning department. He has specialised in advising clients on investment planning since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1985. He advises a broad range of individuals, companies, trusts, pension schemes and charities on investment planning. He is the Chairman of PwC’s Investment Research Group, which is responsible for establishing the firm’s investment advice strategy and methodology, including the firm’s research on unit trusts, offshore funds, investment trusts and other investment products.
Anthony Yadgaroff
Anthony, a former fund manager and equity analyst, founded Allenbridge Group plc in 1984 to provide a performance measurement and fund manager selection service for high net worth individuals. Today it has an extensive team of professionals including five actuaries, to provide private clients with appropriate benchmarks and monitoring. Allenbridge also provides other services for the investment community, including Hedge Funds rating and evaluation and UK Tax Shelters research.
